Brother Valan is an inquisitor of the Blackmarch Tribunal, serving under Brother Lucas. In trials he typically acts as the Accuser. (See The Imperial Inquisition for a brief description of how tribunals function.)

When he is not breaking people in the name of imperial security, Brother Valan enjoys gardening in his greenhouse and is an expert on plants and herbs.
